Seeing Australia by car is one of the best ways to make the most of your time in the country but you also have to be realistic about what you want to see. There are so many iconic locations and destinations in this part of the world that it would be impossible to see everything unless you were taking a year out. Even then it would be pretty hard to make the most of what Australia has to offer. This is why knowing what is on offer, and what you are keen to see, will help you to plan the best car hire adventure possible in Australia.

It is important to plan some beach and relaxation time in Australia but you should also plan to get off the beaten track for a while. If you are keen to experience some parts of Australia that many tourists never get to see, this is going to be the best way for you to create some magical memories that will stay with you for a life time.

See the blooming flowers of Australia

The Margaret River region is an ideal place to visit and it is only a couple of hours drive from Perth, the home of the Western area of the country. This part of the country is filled with a vast array of colourful flowers, especially when they are in bloom from August until halfway through November. If you are keen to see some stunning sights from your car as you drive, planning your trip for this time of year will provide you with the perfect platform. The blue, red, pink, mauve, yellow and white colours will live with you for a very long time, and that’s even before you contemplate the majesty of the Margaret River itself. There are forests and heaths on this route which will ensure your camera is constantly by your side.
You should also make your way into Perth where you will get to see the both of both worlds and no matter what you have an interest in, it could be found in or very close to Perth. If you have an interest in wine, although not while you are driving, you should find that there are plenty of tours to enjoy in this part of the country. There is also a great opportunity to see a number of stunning creatures in their natural habitat such as dolphins, whales and the kangaroo, which is a must-see for any Australian trip. No matter where you are driving to and from in Australia, if your car hire adventure doesn’t include a stop-off to see kangaroos, you will be missing out on a lot of fun.

There are plenty of wineries to enjoy in Western Australia

Between Perth and the Margaret River, you will find more than 100 wineries, which is clearly something that will enliven any trip. If you are not too fussed about wine, make sure you visit Freo, where you will have more than 150 National Trust buildings to explore. There are also plenty of museums, cafes, pubs and shops in this port, which has been wonderfully preserved. There are plenty of ships and vessels still utilising this port, which provides it with a strong working atmosphere. This should be a must-see destination on any driving holiday in the Western side of Australia.
Heading south to Cape Leeuwin will take you along some of the most winding roads in the country. This is a journey where you will want to have your wits about you but you will find that the views are well worth the trip. This is also the route where you will some of the finest caves and surfing destinations in Australia. Whether you get out and join is up to you but even as an observer there will be plenty to recommend heading in the direction of Cape Leeuwin.
