Happy New Year!

Do you enjoy New Year? I know a lot of people that don’t, and to be honest, I’m not a fan either, which is why I go away for the strike of a sparkling new calendar year, taking my mind completely off the pressure to have ‘the best night ever’. I would highly recommend it to anyone!

As with any popular time of the year, it’s best to book as early as possible, and this means you will probably grab a cheaper deal as a result. I would always advise anyone interested in going away for New Year to book it as soon as the decision is made, to give you more options and better prices.

As with many winter flights, you might find the better range of destinations available from the London airports, but the advantage to this is lower prices, so it could work out to your advantage. If you have to travel a little further to reach the airport, consider staying over in an airport hotel, to make life easier, as well as adding an extra night onto your break. I do this regularly, and I often book Heathrow Airport hotels with HolidayExtras.co.uk, which always work out great value for money.

The choice of destinations is endless, and isn’t always limited to the places you would normally picture when you think of New Year. You could of course head to Sydney for those amazing fireworks, or New York for the celebrations in Times Square, but you could also head to a beach resort and see in the New Year with friends, go out for a meal in an a European city, or visit a ski resort and enjoy the perks of après ski on the stroke of midnight. I spent New Year in Turkey last year, and even though I had to fly indirect to reach the typically summer resort of Marmaris, the different take of New Year celebrations was a refreshing change, and for the first time in a long time, I actually enjoyed New Year!

Wherever you go, remember to book your travel insurance, to cover you in case of any problems. My tip would be to arrange annual travel insurance at the beginning of the year, so you don’t have to think about buying another policy every time you go away during the following 12 months. If you are thinking of indulging in some winter sports, make sure your policy covers for you for this, but on the whole, I think multi-trip makes life easier.

If I’ve given you food for thought for how you’d like to spend this coming New Year, even though it’s a good few months away yet, I’d certainly advise you give it serious thought ahead of time, to make sure you’re smiling because of the bargain you’ve grabbed come the stroke of a fresh new year.
