The city of Pattaya, second most visited City of Thailand feels like one big theme park. It’s a good thing since it used to have a reputation of being seedy. Not only were the stretches of beach a main draw and the Pattaya Sea Adventure, there are several man-made attractions. From the lively night life of cabarets and muay thai arenas, theme parks have popped up all over the place. The Underwater World Pattaya is one that is family friendly and offers a glimpse of the nearby underwater world of Thailand without the need to get wet.

Underwater World Pattaya

I think every country has underwater museum, aquarium, park or scientific learning center to showcase the marine life in their. Underwater World Pattaya is one of the ocean themed attractions in Thailand displays their underwater world found at the gulf of Thailand. They are also integral in education and marine conservation in the country.

The establishment is moderate in size. Has a large big tent as a cover. The aquarium attraction is open everyday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Entrance fees is THB 500 for adults and THB 300 for children. Kids under 90cm are free.

Aquatic Zones

Underwater World Pattaya exhibition is divided in different zones. The open air section exhibits some reptiles, snakes, and Touch Pools for koi feeding. An exhibit of fighting fishes lead to the dimly lit aquariums where things get really interesting.

The cave like interiors looks alien with an aquarium of large crustaceans like Giant Spider Crabs. The we finally reach the tunnel. I had no idea it has one and is my favorite section. The first part of going through the 105 meter aquarium  tunnel features the Open Ocean Zone where one could see Black Tip Reef Sharks, Eagle Rays, Black-blotched Rays, Fat Nurse Sharks and the elusive Shovel-nose Ray.

The next tunnel is the Giant of Siam, replicating some underwater wrecks and houses creatures that dwells in those areas. These are really large fishes.

The Jelly Fish zone has a few tanks of jellyfish that looks cool and surreal under changing lights.

Marine World Wonders

The Underwater World Pattaya is a great venue to jumpstart interest in the underwater world. I thought the aquarium was pretty nice and decent. If you come in the right time, visitors can watch during feeding time of the otters, fishes and the tunnel zone. It’s not big but aquariums like this is always a fascinating visit especially for families with kids. So when in Pattaya, do drop by. Activity may be booked in advance though KKday!
