Transit: Bacolod Airport

Bacolod Airport Checkin Counters

Bacolod Airport Check-in Counters

Since we’re tackling airports, another relatively new airport in the Philippines that opened just this January 2008 is the new Bacolod Airport in Silay. Their old airport used to be in Bacalod City itself. I thought it was a good move for the province since I personally like Silay more than Bacolod itself. It is another international standard airport here in our country.

Bacolod: A glimpse of Silay’s ancestral houses

Baldevia Pensione in Burgos

Baldevia Pensione in Burgos, ancestral house turned Pensione

Dubbed as the “Paris of Negros“, the Town of Silay is next to out rivals Vigan in terms of a number of well preserved Ancestral Houses. It is interesting to see how the former moniker fares and also the presence of ancestral houses that we decided to stay at one of the 31 heritage houses there, the Baldevia Pensione House.

Bacolod: A Balaring afternoon

Balaring Twilight Bamboo Ties

Balaring Twilight Bamboo Ties

Second day mid-morning found us in transit from Bacolod City proper to Silay City which is about 45minutes to an hour away from each other. After a hearty breakfast at Bacolod Pensione Plaza, we checked out not before asking for directions on where to find a ride. Though there were couple of directions given, they all end up on the main Lacson St highway. There were many jeeps plying the route costing us only 15 Pesos for the ride to Silay Town Proper.

Our 4:55am flight from NAIA Terminal 3 to Bacolod was fairly in time, arriving a little past 6am in the morning at the relatively new Airport in Silay. We were welcomed by a few taxi drivers and companies offering their shuttle services heading to Bacolod Town proper which is around 45minutes away. There were Taxi shuttles which they fill in costning 150 Php per pax. There is also a taxi-van for 450 Php. We chose the latter since it has the same price for the 3 of us for the taxi, plus we have the van only for the 3 of us.
