Bloggers dine with Microtel Inn Suites

Microtel Inn Suites presentation

Microtel Inn Suites presentation

It would seem that companies lately have seen a lot of potential in using blogs as a marketing tool for their businesses. And here in the Philippines, they have started tapping on some of the popular bloggers specializing on their respective niches. That said, I was a bit surprised when I received an email invitation from the Philippine’s pro-blogging guru Abe Olandres or also known as Yuga of Yugatech to attend a dinner invitation from Microtel Inn and Suites Philippines. As I don’t really attend much blogger events, I decided it would be nice to attend this one since the niche is more on blogs involved in travel and photography. I thought it would be nice to meet these other travel bloggers as well.

11th Philippine Hot Air Balloon Fiesta

11th Philippine Hot Air Balloon Fiesta

It’s the Philippine Hot Air Balloon Fiesta once again and this annual event is now on its 11th year. I really had plans on going back here once again since I enjoyed last year’s spectacle. At first I wasn’t sure if I could make this trip since a friend of mine who originally invited me to come suddenly backed out due to an unforeseen gig scheduled at that time. Fortunately, another friend texted, asking me for some info about the event. It turns out she’ll be going with her friends and I asked if I could join in. Everything was last minute though, as we had to leave that Friday night since we were going to stay at a villa in Mimosa. No one from the group wanted to wake up and drive early morning. So from the office, I hurried home, pulled out a small bag, grabbed a few clothes, took my camera equipments, dashed through my dinner and hurried to the place where they’ll pick me up.

Balloons in flight

Balloons in flight

The annual Hot Air Balloon Fiesta in Clark, Pampanga

I was wide eyed when I woke up about 2:45 in Sunday morning. Pulling myself out of bed was effort enough but I have to get up if we were to catch the annual Hot Air Ballon Fiesta in Clark, Pampanga in time. It was the first time for me to attend this spectacle of an event and with free complimentary tickets to boot. It was an event not to miss, lest I have to wait again another year.

Fire it Up

Fire it up! Propane burners fill the balloons with hot air to fly.

We arrived in Clark by 5:45am after our meet up in Makati around 4am. The propane burners were lit up in the twilight sky and signaled the start of the event. Gradually the deflated balloons started filling up and the myriad gargantuan colors of these balloons started rising up from slumber and ready to take flight.

Gulugod Baboy and Digimac Exhibit

Morning View at Gulugod Baboy

Whew! I’ve been on the move since Friday. It was really nice to see the Lakbay Unlimited folks back again in one place. Last Friday the guys had a nice video night in Marco’s place. We watched “Anger Managment”, which is quite funny and also “Gothika” a nice suspense movie, which made the girls in the room scream in suspense. Quite a fun movie. I had to leave them early, after the two movie since I have a climb on weekend.

I was actually having second thoughts about the climb in Gulugod Baboy, I just packed my bag that morning when I arrived that morning from the “Lakbay” gathering. I was ready to text Ruby that I won’t make it, but since I already gave my word a week ago that I would be joining them I pulled myself to the Buendia station that morning.

Believe it or not I actually enjoyed that climb. The guys, especially the KFC folks were a nice and wacky company, and they cook great outdoor food. The place and trail isn’t that hard. It’s only 470 meters actually but when we got to the summit, I really enjoyed the place. It really reminded me of Batanes’ Marlboro Country. It was a really nice summit, disregarding the cow shit spread all over the campsite. The 360 degrees view from the summit is really breath taking.

The next day was another story actually, I’m a bit annoyed how disorganized our After climb activity was. It could have been better planned and lots of time wasted. I really didn’t like what the other group did of having drinks that early morning. I mean we should have settled on our place first after which they could just do what ever they want. We wasted like 2 hours. And I was really diappointed at this 20 pesos beach they chose. Sheesh. Well you get what you pay for! Just when I was in a snorkeling mood.

Well nevertheless, it was a nice climb overall, except for that boboo that morning. I told Ruby that we should had sticked to our IT. Instead, we ended up adjusting our time to the other group with us. Don’t get me wrong, they’re nice, but I’m quite strict on time and planning.

Digimac Exhibit

Anyways, the weekend didn’t end there. Before I went home that evening, I was still able to catch the Digimac Exhibit in megamall. I was really glad when I saw my artwork there (lower left in the picture). Out of 250+ entries, I was one of the 20 artworks there. Wohoo. Well that’s good enough for me right now.
