Troy: An Epic Disappointment

Troy Movie

I haven’t been in a theater for quite a while, so I thought of gathering up my “Lakbay” friends and have a nice friday night movie with “Troy”. I expected much from this epic, as a lot of literary materials have been made into a movie. Since the LOTR trilogy has finished I was hoping this epic would follow suite as a nice mythological movie, but I ended up with an epic disappointment.

They should have titled this movie as “Achilles” instead of Troy. If you want to see a lot of Brad Pitt wearing a skirt with a lot of butt-naked scenes, then you’ll enjoy this. But honestly, his character here is one that you’ll never care for. You’d actually care more on hector than his arrogant, warrior-killing-is-al- I-have persona. Paris is one that I would like ti hit in the head several times in the movie for his stupidity, and his all so familiar bow and arrow thingy in the end just cries trying hard to be an LOTR followup. C’mon, this is another movie. Do they really thought that the movie would work gathering up some of the cast from the LOTR? Well where should I blame all of this. The script! It’s really awful. I mean, all of this characterization and all the inaccuracies could have been done better with a better script.

I must admit that some of the fight scenes were nice but it really didn’t wow me or impress me. Like I have seen these before. ANd the music doesn’t really set the mood in as I feel I’ve heard this all before.

Really I must say the Wolfgang Peterson was playing safe here, making a movie that just have that hollowood flavor in it. A friend of mine was right to say that the children or kids today shouldn’t enjoy this movie as it is a far cry from the “Iliad”. It frightens me that mor children would reference the story based on this bland movie than the book itself.

Labyrinth

Jim Henson's Labyrinth

I get to see again a long time classic Jim Henson Movie “Labyrinth”, when a friend of mine was able to get a copy after he got curiuos about it when we were talking about it the other night.

It was one movie that really influenced my view of fantasy wayback in 1986, I was still in grade school at that time. And after seeing this amazing fantasy world of biting faeries, talking hands, gargoyles, changing labyrinth floors and crytalballs, I thought Jim Henson was a genius. I got sucked into his world.

Seeingit now brought back nostalgia and how this old film could still be in par with the movies of today. It is timeless. I never new that Jennifer Connely was the girl here before I saw her in “A Beautifl Mind”. She looks great here. And David Bowie’s music really captivates here. His “Dance Magic Dance” was really fun.

Labyrinth is a timeless movie that I’m glad I’ve seen again after all these years.

Whisper of the Heart

Whisper of the Heart

Have you ever seen the Anime “Whisper of the Heart”, talked about it last December, on how much I enjoyed the movie. It’s fun, realistic, inspirational and I really enjoyed the music.

Well I was also thinking about what the guy there did just to get close to the girl he wants and his passion for music. What if I try that once in a while, head to a library or someplace where I know I would meet someone special. Hmmm…. Valentines seems to getting to me somehow 😛
