A five-star and 272-room property, Riverside Majestic Astana Wing sits at the heart of Kuching City overlooking the winding Sarawak river. Conveniently located across the waterfront and walking distance to a lot of attractions in the city. It was a perfect home base for us as we cover the Kuching Jazz Festival in 2019.
Location
Less than half an hour of travel from the airport, we arrived at Riverside Majestic Astana Wing in the evening. Even at night, we could see the many establishments around the hotel. From street-side eateries, restaurants, a mall connecting to the Puteri Wing and a convenience store nearby. During our stay, we conveniently walked to check out the nearby murals and even tried a few local coffeeshops.

Room
We got an Executive Deluxe Room with a city view at the 5th floor. It has 2 queen sized bed with a view of the western side of the city. At 28-29 sqm, the room is aptly spaced, enough room to move around comfortably. The floor to ceiling windows offer ample light at daylight. Room design is relatively modern conservative playing on purple and cobalt hues. Beds and linens were quite comfortable. Other staple amenities are there, 40” LCD TV with cable, mini bar with fridge, iron with board and decent internet speed.
Dining
The room might be conservative but the common areas have a dash of color and ambiance.
The Deli Cafe with its vibrant couch amidst the high ceiling and window with a view is quite an appealing place to lounge.
At the mezzanine area is the Surf and Chat area where one can comfortably work with their laptops while having coffee on the side.
Speaking of coffee, Sape Restaurant have one excellent coffee. This is one thing I’ll remember well from this hotel, excellent spread of food for breakfast buffet. They also have a lovely al fresco area, a veranda with a view of the street and river.
Facility
Despite opening just recently at 2018, the building in general doesn’t look new. Probably an acquired property. That’s why the other facilities like the gym and pool are accessed through a bridge way to Puteri Wing where it is located.
Stay Experience
Generally, I found my stay here quite memorable. Mainly because of the food which they share with sister hotels like Hotel Margherita nearby. Dining ambiance is also nice and rooms are quite pleasant, ideal for business travelers. Another thing is the location which is walking distance to a lot of significant sights and attractions in the area. I would stay here again if I found myself in Kuching.
