Tea tasting with tummy treats

Lemon Torte

You know what I else I like aside from shooting travel photos? It’s Food! Those baked goodies just melt in your eyes. I was recently able to try some cakes at Classic Confections in Greenbelt 5. Pastries is one of my food weaknesses, especially those colorful and mouth watering ones like from this cake shop. I try to stay away eating much of these, if fact I’m already contented eating bits of one of each since some I found really sweet. So let me just indulge a bit with some yummy photos instead. I really like the colors of these goodies.

World Pyro Olympics 2008 Finale

La Mancha's Streak of Colors

The much awaited World Pyro Olympics 2008 has finally came to a close last night. After much delays in actually starting it, some cancellations and back-outs the event did fairly well to cap it off. Oddly enough, we weren’t able to hear who the winner was. My bet’s with Italy but will update this post when I hear word. Not only was this special ending, was able to meet some other photographers at the event as well.

Word Pyro Olympics 2008: Venezuela vs Italy

Venezuela Opening Colors

This year’s World Pyro Olympics is as unpredictable as the rains. It’s not such a good idea to have it held at the onset of the rainy season. Last week was supposed to be Venezuela and Italy’s fireworks display. But because of the rains, strong winds and waves, the show didn’t push through on both days of the weekends. Last Saturday, seeing the weather more favorable, we headed down Mall of Asia and was positively waiting for the show to start. Fortunately it did.

World Pyro Olympics 2008: Canada vs France

France's Crimson Burst

Before I write about the Opening night of my “Living By Water” exhibit, let me out this one first. Actually I’m still waiting for the photos to post for that night. But it was a really pleasant opening and very thankful to the attendees. The World Pyro Olympics is one visual sensory feast a lot of people in Manila are looking forward to. I was able to attend a night during last year’s Pyro Olympics and enjoyed the fireworks display that I was looking forward to this one as well. It was real funny that the date has been moved more than 3 times until it finally settled this month of May.

Video: Wonders of Manila Ocean Park

alt=

Manila Ocean Park is finally open! I think this is one development project a lot of people are watching out for. It was slated to open last December in which I was worried at first due to the speedy development but then it moved to late February. Buddy Oggie invited me to come along since he got invites for the Partner’s Night pre-opening. He contributed some of his photos to be used for their interactive kiosk installation thus the free invites. The Oceanarium officially opened yesterday (March 1) and we now currently have the largest oceanarium in Asia. So prepare to be a kid again.

Church Hopping around San Miguel

Basilica Minore de San Sebastian

No, this isn’t an early Visita Inglesia post in Manila nor did I shoot a wedding here, it just so happen that there’s a wedding being held at San Sebastian Basilica Church when I was there. I was supposed to shoot a few scenes around the neighborhood of Malacañang, the country’s seat of the government, as a minor assignment for a publication I regularly contribute at. My route was the same as Ivan Mandy’s San Miguel Walking tour, but since I’m no historian, I pulled out a fellow blogger, Tito of Tutubi Patrol, whose more adept to history than I am and we were also joined by another photographer/writer Joselle for a short walk around the San Miguel District in Manila.

Eat up in Binondo

Binondo Church

Binondo is a really amusing place in this part of Manila. I enjoy the smell, the structures and especially the food. The old 16th century Binondo Church still retains its old stone walls. The interiors looks more grand than most churches and the altar seems similar to those in European design. Did you know the first Philippine saint, Lorenzo Ruiz, started here as an altar boy? I certainly didn’t. Hmmm… this would be a very interesting church to take picture of for Simbang Gabi.
